Our history

The Pain and Anaesthesia Research Centre, formerly the Anaesthetic Laboratory, was established in 1991 by Professor Richard Langford, consultant in anaesthesia and pain medicine at Barts Health NHS Trust and past President of the British Pain Society.  Under his directorship, PARC has developed an international reputation and strong publication record in pain medicine and clinical monitoring, as well as a long track record in training and supervision in the methodology and conduct of research.
